Natural First Cut Premium Bamboo Stakes, Bundle

First cut is 3 times stronger than wood, and is the best quality - more elastic, sturdier and it lasts much longer!

Hand-selected, this first cut bamboo is 3 times stronger than wood and higher quality than what you can find elsewhere. Top quality bamboo with straight, flexible shafts and growth rings, or nodes, along the length of the cane that naturally vary in spacing. Sturdy and long-lasting. These are ideal for field staking, and great for use in the greenhouse or garden. Value priced per bale; buy by the bale and save!

For long-term durability before use, we recommend you store your stakes out of direct sunlight and at 65% or less humidity, with good ventilation. Keep the stakes bundled and off the ground until usage. Note: 9-foot, 10-foot, and 12-foot lengths ship motor freight; orders of multiple bales may also require special shipping, call for more information.

Be Careful and Choose First-Cut Bamboo! Bamboo is a natural, sustainable product, but not all bamboo is the same. We led the industry in carrying only first-cut bamboo, which has a more elastic structure and is sturdier and longer-lasting than subsequent cuts. Here's how it works: Let's say that, in the field, a 15-foot length of bamboo is harvested. From this 15-foot length, we need an 8-foot finished cane. The 8-foot section is taken from the more flexible, sturdier section of cane. That's first-cut bamboo. The remaining 7 feet of the cane is then offered as second-cut bamboo. If the second piece is cut to a new size, you would create third-cut bamboo and so on. This later-cut bamboo is sometimes sold cheaply, because it has fibrous walls and much less flexibility. Second-cut bamboo will be more likely to snap or split in the field. When you are comparing bamboo pricing, be sure to ask which cutting you are getting. If it is not first-cut bamboo, be aware that you are sacrificing quality and probably will be disappointed. With A.M. Leonard, you will only get the best: First-Cut!

Customer Reviews for Natural First Cut Premium Bamboo Stakes, Bundle

5 Stars Great product in hard-to-find sizes

Renee from CT wrote (April 18, 2014):

We bought a bundle of 8-ft stakes 15 years ago, and actually still have some -- three gardens later. We use them for plant teepees, and store them in the garage over the winter. It's amazing how well they've held up. I have never found such long, big-diameter poles at any garden center in Connecticut, and I've looked.

4 Stars Bamboo stakes

Jake from WA wrote (March 18, 2013):

These are sturdy natural stakes that can be used for multiple applications. We like use these natural stakes as plant supports and tall flagging poles in vegetative sites in both landscape and restoration sites.

5 Stars Excellent product, very satisfied

Ken S. from IN wrote (August 06, 2012):

I wanted to try something different and was putting out nearly 200 plants (tomatoes and peppers). They arrived in good condition. Out of the 250, one was broken and three or four had a beautiful curve. :-) However, this isn't too bad considering they are a natural product and subject to variations in growth. Anyway, the curved work fine for plants. I really like these and would definitely recommend them. Note though, be sure to get the right diameter for your application. I had 1/2" x 5' and they are just about right for smaller tomatoes. Mine have grown to be over 6' long with multiple branches. I had to add poles around each plant. The 5/8 or 3/4 would have been better (live and learn). A final note. We had a severe storm with 70+ mph winds. The stakes and plants held up very well. This speaks to the flexibility of the stakes.

1 Star Terrible product; non-existent customer service

Davilyn - Small organic Farmer from CA wrote (April 23, 2012):

I bought the 1"x 8' poles. They arrived wrapped with one single string all beat up. Within a week they developed huge 2" cracks the whole length of the poles - rendering them entirely useless for my purpose. I emailed this company TWICE and never received a response. For the money I paid for them I am beyond disappointed. It took a great effort on my part to be able to afford them - and to have this company be absolutely indifferent certainly doesn't help matters.

A.M. Leonard: We have contacted the customer and are working to resolve the problem.

5 Stars high quality bamboo

The Victorian Plant Emporium, John W., Sebring, Fl from FL wrote (March 23, 2011):

AML has the best outstanding 1st cut quality bamboo we have found. The cell walls and tubular thickness indicate these cuts come from a very well maintained supply with a tremendous availability of water for consistent growth, with no growth spurts and stops as you find with many higher priced suppliers. I can't grow it this good myself cost wise.

    FAQ

    • QUESTION: What is the life span of the bamboo?
    • ANSWER: Due to varying temperature and weather, it is hard to put a specific time on the life span, but generally bamboo is good for one growing season.

    • QUESTION: At what part of the cane is the diameter measured?
    • ANSWER: Diameter is taken at the base of the cane. Since this is a natural product canes will vary, and they will taper at the top.
