This is a great shovel for our clay, shale and rocky land. It's also great for cutting through small roots. I definitely recommend it.

This shovel really gets to the point, literally! The tip starts the hole and gets things going easily. Its also great for prying roots and going around my sprinkler heads. (I even use it to easily open my bags of soil and cement.)
