  • New fiberglass Handles - Fiberglass without any plastic molding. Like the composite the head connection area is a solid fiberglass, the balance of the fiberglass is shaped like a honeycomb, not a hollow tube and not solid. There are some resins used in a thin surface veil which provides prevents splintering and provides UV protection. But this handle is mostly fiberglass, where the composite is a mix of both materials.

I selected this particular shovel mainly because of the description "forged round point with solid back" and also because of the fiberglass handle. I have broken wooden handled shovels and cracked the flat part of the blade just below the shank on other shovels. So far this shovel has held up. I was somewhat disappointed that the back was filled in with welded strips that could trap dirt and moisture and eventually allow rusting rather than being a solid forged shank such as a "True Temper Contractors Model.
