Disappointing as a "Grafting Knife"

wrote ():

Although nicely constructed, this knife has two bevels, rather than a single bevel and flattened opposite side (as found in bypass pruners). This is not standard and increases the difficulty in making the flat tapered cuts, for cleft grafts, splice grafts, whip and tongue grafts etc. Regrind it or use for whittling. Surprised to have gotten this from Leonard!

EXCELLENT Choice

Purchased for grafting -- it was the right choice. The blade is sharp & easily maintained. I prefer the style to the folding knife I own -- it works better for grafting & dividing irises. Add a hole to the handle & add a cord -- can't drop it then.

a good utility grafting knife

This knife turned out to be less than ideal for grafting, but I've been using it for cutting out apple borers and disease in my trees. I filed down the blade to a single bevel for my purposes, as I didn't like the way it cut. The handle is enormous, and keep the blade dry and clean, or it'll rust. A good utility grafting-style knife, but I wouldn't use it for bench grafting or top-work with fruit trees.
