Customer Reviews for Leonard Professional Lifetime Loppers, 1.5-inch Cutting Capacity
Absolutely a Great Tool
We have used the #70170 loppers for volunteer events, and they have proven to hold up under heavy use no matter what the level of experience of users. We can turn volunteers loose with these and not worry about them breaking.
28 inch loppers
We ordered and tried a number of similar loppers to see which we liked best. The AM Leonard ones were by far the best. Super sharp and easy to use.
Excellent quality, durability, and price. These loppers are ruggedly built and produce a superior cut and maintain their sharp edge.
A.M. Lenoard Loppers
I bought this pair of loppers to see if they really did work like they are advertised and I have been very happy with them. They work just as well as Felco's at a more reasonable price.
Never a problem with these loppers
I have used the lopper with the 19" handles doing maintenence at a large commercial display garden for many years, I've taken care of them and they have always worked well.I have used them for seasonal pruning for about 75-100 trees and shrubs there. I recently purchased the ones with 23" handles, I have been using them to prune my apple trees at home. I love them, I am a smaller person, so I like the extra "reach"!
These loppers are very good quality and maintain the cutting edge. They are lightweight and easy to use. The only drawback is the bolts that connect the lopper head to the handles are weak and break or loosen up and break. A case hard bolt or better attachment design is needed.
A.M. Leonard replies: This is by design; the bolts are hard enough to do the job, but will shear if too much pressure occurs to the handles, preventing blade/handle damage. Handle bolts are easy to replace and we carry stock on them.
A good quality tool
Leonard Professional Lifetime Loppers
Although I have not used these loppers for a long time, I am very satisfied with their precision cuts. No "tearing" of branches or limbs. The loppers with the 23 inch handle are very sharp and effortless to use. Great product so far. I am also using the tool for cutting smaller stemmy plants with ease. Works like a charm on roses too. Very happy with my purchase. A super companion tool to use with my irreplaceable Silky Big Boy saw.
the best loppers
The title says it all. I've used (and abused) this tool professionally as an orchardist and for general rough clearing work for years and have no complaints. I've touched up the jaw edges occasionally with a diamond file and oiled contact points. I've never needed to replace the jaws although the design tells me it could easily be accomplished (?) should you decide to prune some granite. Think about how much reach you're going to need; I've been using the 19" and think the 15" would be better for up in a tree, however, a longer reach is good for cutting oriental bittersweet at grade.
