the only problem I seem to be having is the screw that holds the lock in place keeps untightening.

Great product!

I picked up a pair of the #1234 pruners, and absolutely love them! Just a couple months ago I put them to the test, collecting willow and cottonwood cuttings. The job was three full 8 hr. days of nothing but cutting sticks, and I couldn’t be happier with how these pruners performed. They were comfortable enough that even after 24 hours of snipping, I had no cramping, no blisters, and felt like I could have kept right on going. They’re tough too, with enough strength to cleanly cut through willows as thick as an inch. This was a great bonus to discover, as the job took place in some tricky terrain, and not having to carry around a set of loppers as well made it so much easier. I treat them nicely and clean them after each use, but I’m still using the original blade still and it seems as sharp as the day I got them!

Not tough enough

Have had much better luck with Felco pruners. AM < 1 season and Felco several seasons.

These pruners were a replacement for Felco Pruners. They have performed well under heavy use, and we will purchase more as replacements are needed.

Yes--I agree with the reviewer who said that the handles are comfortable and the blade isn't sharp.

Is this really not THE pruner that I have boiught for 15 years?

wrote ():

This pruner surprized and delighted me. It appears similar to the one that I have bought for ever but wanted to try one that looked like it. To my surprize the Leonard has the strength and quality that I am used to for $20 less. And the ergonomic design feels excellent as well. I will buy another Leonard By-pass pruner probably sooner than later. In addition, it has great sharp cutting surfaces that work well for my dahlias or roses. In addition, I take the pruner into the 3 acres of woods and weeds that lie outside of my regular gardening area and I use it widely there as well.

Comfortable but very poor quality cutting blade

wrote ():

These pruners have very comfortable grips, but after just a few hours of use, the cutting blade was chipped along its entire surface. I was in no way abusing the pruners, and was both surprised and disappointed at the significant damage to the blade during my first use of these pruners. Other Leonard-brand tools have served me well, but I cannot recommend these pruners given the very poor quality of the cutting blade.

AMLeo #1234 Ergonomic Bypass Pruners

wrote ():

The #1234 Bypass Pruners are a copy of the Felco #8 pruners, a proven design. There is good news and bad news. The good news is all about the handles. They are very comfortable. I have a pair of the Felco #8 and the handles of #1234 don't spread apart as far as the #8 which fits my hand better. The bad news is the blade. Out of the box the bladed was intially very sharp. However with very little use (2 trees) the blade has scalloped and notched preventing full closure of the handles. I have over a half a dozen bypass pruners from Corona, Felco, Bacho and Barnell and I've never had a blade do this. I'm going to try to marry the blade of the Felco #8 to the handles of #1234. If that works it may be perfection. I'm a big fan of AMLeo but have give a pass on these pruners.
