The workhorse of all shovels!

A.M. Leonard round-point blade pro shovel has a 51" ash wood handle for comfort and a 12 gauge forged head for blade strength. This classic design of this head will not bend under use, and the forged back will not fill with dirt. The wood handle has grain that runs perpendicular to the shovel to allow for maximum leverage strength. Lifetime warranty.

A real Shovel! Lee from VT wrote October 15, 2018

I've been digging in the ground for over fifty years. I've gone through many hardware store shovels over that time, and finally decided to spend the money for something good. I just dug a 100 foot trench in about the toughest rocky soil I've ever encountered. After hosing it off, this shovel still looks like new! The point isn't worn or bent a bit. Other shovels would be curled under or split in half after that workout. I must emphasize that a shovel should never be used in place of an iron bar or a pick. But this one whacked into plenty of rocks and chipped and pried at many more. It came through unscathed.

Bad for soil with high clay content Joanna from MO wrote April 05, 2018

The shovel head's surface is not at all smooth, but rather quite textured with small pock marks. My heart sank when I saw the texture on the point of the shovel that was poking out of the box on arrival, as I knew that our soil would stick to that textured surface. Sure enough, a small test dig proved this to be a problem, and the stickiness (and corresponding effort to clean up the head) is why I'm returning this shovel. Our soil has quite a bit of clay, but a smooth shovel head that hasn't rusted releases a shovel full of soil with little effort, and it is also relatively easy to clean. After I broke the handle of a cheap shovel, I decided to upgrade to something that was high quality and would last a long time, with the intention that I would clean it thoroughly and promptly after each use. After a circuit of local hardware stores didn't turn up a suitable closed back shovel, I continued my research and selected this model. Unfortunately, the online photos don't accurately capture the texture of the shovel head; this is a critical flaw for my needs.

A.M. Leonard: We have had several people review the photos of this product. The images clearly show that the head of the shovel is textured and not smooth. Great shovel head, lousy handle James from TX wrote April 01, 2017

Shovel head is strong and looks to give years of service. The ash handle broke right at the first rivet on the first use. I ground down the rivet heads and got the handle out. Now just need to pick up a new handle. Wish the whole shovel was made as well as the head.
