I am a firm believer in the phrase, "You get what you pay for!" A forged shovel will outlast any open or closed back design. The thicker gauge blade and dual rivets that the forged shovels come with won't flex, buckle, wear thin, or lose an edge like the others. Well worth the investment, they WILL NOT wear out!

Top Quality Forged Shovel Joseph from AL wrote September 23, 2011

I was looking for a hard-working, durable, square-point shovel. This shovel fulfills it in every way. I have used it to move composted manure for my garden, gravel for drainage around my house, and shredded leaves for my compost pile. I also sharpened the edge so that I could use it to make nice and straight edges for my double-dug garden beds and to "clean-up" the surface of a cob wall to make it look more neat. So far I have used it for the beds but not for the cob walls but I expect it to work fine for that as well. Dislikes? Well I wish it was half of its weight, half of its price, and came with a half-case of beer. But, if you are going to buy a shovel that will last you for decades then the shovel is going to be both heavy and expensive. Plus, real beer comes in growlers and not half cases. Everyone knows this. In addition to a quality tool, I just wanted to say that A.M. Leonard was very expedient in shipping out my order. I am very pleased with my order and will happily do so again.
