The tool that built an industry!

We make the blades of our Leonard Full-Strap Spades using high-carbon, heat-treated steel. These blades measure 13 inches in length and have a top width of 7-1/2 inches. The blade tapers to a 6-1/8-inch beveled cutting edge. The extra-wide turned step accommodates one of our Rubber Foot Pads.

Full-strap spades feature a strip of metal that runs along the entire length of the tool. We rivet this strap for a secure hold. We outfit this spade with a 27-inch D-grip handle. The D-grip increases leverage and provides you with maximum control. This handle features a shock-absorbing hardwood core with through rivets.

The low two-inch lift angle of Leonard Full-Strap Spades makes them ideal for digging straight down. Use these tools to transplant, prune roots, edge, and much more. The shock-absorbing core reduces stress and fatigue during use. The wide turn step alleviates foot strain but is not large enough to interfere with the job.

Professionals have trusted Leonard Full-Strap Spades since the early 1900s. They offer the perfect combination of strength, durability, and comfort. Their full-strap design reinforces critical stress points, further expanding their service life. We proudly manufacture these spades in the USA and back them with our lifetime warranty!

Do not use your spade as a pry bar. Doing so can damage this tool beyond repair. Any damage caused by improper use voids the warranty on this product.

Does The Job Lou from NV wrote June 18, 2017

I used the spade immediately to dig a trench for the footing for a stone wall. So far, the spade has proven a capable match for our terrible, rocky Nevada soil.

I really put it through its paces within 48 hours using it to aid in removing a tree stump. I like its weight and durability. I have no fears about ever having to replace it.

Old classic is indestructible Benson from NC wrote May 07, 2014

I bought 2 of the classic about 20 years ago, and they have indispensable almost any time I do heavy digging -- and useful for all sorts of other tasks. If the new design is even better, I may be compelled to invest in 2 more!
