Kirkmont has 278 acres of camp and retreat grounds. Volunteers found it easier remove invasive trees with the Root Slayer XL. Most small ones can be popped out immediately. Larger ones require working around the spreading roots. We bought one Root Slayer XL and several smaller sizes. We are buying a second Root Slayer XL so two volunteers can work at once.
Takes out the moderate sized saplings like a charm - no "bounce" off bigger roots like a round point. Balks a little at bigger saplings (1" plus caliper) with big or hard roots. Only complaint is the modest size of the blade - pretty narrow towards the point and only medium at the shoulder. I feel like it could do a little bit more lateral digging with each "cut". For a modest size individual (170 lbs.) it is no problem jumping it through some big roots. Overall - highly effective .
