Simple tool that is really easy to use - a great tool. on wrote

I've tried many other tools and had elbow pain, so I relucatantly thought I would try one more tool. I was pleasantly surprised that it cut through most dirt (all but super dried ground) and the roots of weeds underground. I pulled the weeds out with their roots. I can cover a large area fairly easily in my garden. I use the shorter handle to get the best leverage pulling across rather than digging down (I can still do this).

Must have tool! on wrote

This handy dandy little tool is a lifesaver when it comes to weeding. Its slender head allows you to get between plants with ease. I actually lost this tool and after being unable to find it, I ordered a new one because i could not live without it. I expect that now that i have reordered it i will find the first one, which is fine because my wife loves it too.

One great tool! I have had mine for years. It is my go to for the getting the worst weeds with the minimum of work. I only wish as tears are moving by they made it with a long handle for stand up use.

Disappointed on wrote

I bought this because the 5 1/2 inch weeded was out of stock. I was disappointed because the blade is not sharp. I find the length of the handle not comfortable for me to work with. Hopefully the other will be in stock soon.

I bought this tool for it's intended purpose and this tool does not disappoint. This Cape Cod Weeder is the perfect size to use in tight spaces as well as general lawn maintenance. Besides, you get immediate weed removal without using herbicides.

Grown to appreciate this gem on wrote

My husband bought this for me for Christmas a few years ago. I love good, quality tools but I was a bit disappointed to get it for Christmas. However, I have learned to truly appreciate this tool. Even after years of scraping along rocks and other abuse, it still just shaves off those surface weeds like a piece of carpet. I use the pointed end for yard violets and dandelion roots. This is always in my tool bucket when I'm in the yard.

The Must-Have Weeder on wrote

I bought one years ago from another company and the quality was second to none. The ones at AM Leonard were half the price so I bought a bunch to give to gardening friends and for volunteers who help weed at the nature center where I work. I was hoping the quality would be the same as that of my first Cape Cod weeder and am happy to report that they are. Once I show people how to use the weeder in a variety of situations, they love it as much as I do. I use it to loosen soil around weeds so I can remove as much of the root mass as possible. Easiest tool I've found for weeding flower beds with underlying landscape fabric (which I hate but if the roots haven't grown through the fabric, then this is the weeder helps tease out the roots growing over the fabric.) They are also awesome for working weeds out of cracks and crushed gravel driveways. If you're right handed, it's best held at a 45 degree angle and then draw it towards yourself in short down then up motions. Bottom line, a must-have weeder for your gardening toolkit.

Works well but to long. Can I cut down the handle to make it 9.5 inches, total length.?

A.M. Leonard responds: The ACW has a wood handle. If you choose to cut it down to fit your needs, that is your choice. However, any alterations to the tool will void the warranty.

The best weeder ever! on wrote

I work in landscaping and weed control, this is the weed stick I have used for over twenty years! I have owned probably 5 of them, one got the handle chewed by a dog, I gave one away as a gift and one I lost. I put them through the mill and lend them out to others to show how well they work. I love my Cape Cod weeder! I decided this time to buy 3, one long handled one for older client and two regular length for me! I was so happy on their day of arrival. The older gentleman who got the long handled one is thrilled, "the weeds just pop out, even the dandelions!" was the first thing he told me after using it. Now when he goes outside he carries it with him. I live in Canada, but selected the state my Mom is from Ohio.

A wonderful tool on wrote

I wasn't sure if I would like it, but the price point was OK for me to try it. Well, with this little guy and a mattock I've turned into a weeding genie! I don't mind weeding now as the little hoe does a lot of damage to the weeds with little exertion from me. It fits well in my hand; a well made wonderful tool! Oh my better half is also impressed. I will be buying these as gifts for my grown children as good tools really make gardening enjoyable.

This tool was a replacement for a tool from a different manufacturer. I lost it and searched online for a new one. Works like the old one and handle fits my hand well. I can pry up stones without bending the shaft and blade stays sharp enough to cut through weed roots.

A splash of bright color somewhere on the handle might make it easier to find when it drops in the garden.

Can't Garden Without It on wrote

This Cape Cod weeder is always in my hand or nearby when I'm in the garden. It's the handiest tool ever, and this version is the best one still being made. I keep a few on hand to give to gardening friends. The only downside is that there is no version made for left-handed gardeners. Otherwise, I'd say this tool is tops.

I got my first Cape Cod Weeder probably 37 years ago. I have gardened all my life. It has been my favorite garden tool all that time. I am still using it and it works just the same as when I first got it! I was weeding the other day and got to thinking ....omg, what would I do without it! That is when I ordered another one for me and two more for special people.

A must-have tool on wrote

I became a devotee of the Cape Cod weeder some years ago and don't know how I ever lived without one. The Leonard version has a beautiful wooden, easy-to-grip handle with a blade that serves as a handheld mini-hoe. The tip is more pointed than some, which helps with digging out roots. The only improvement I would make would be to make the blade a little longer, allowing the gardener to cover more surface area with the blade.

Leonard Cape Cod Weeder (short handle) on wrote

for the money it is a good Cape Cod Weeder. the handle design with the bump at the back is nice. steel seems hard enough. the edge needed a bit of fine tuning. pulls out weeds well by the roots and does not cut the root but removes most of the root.

I love EVERYTHING about this tool. It is the perfect size and of the highest quality. Not only is it a weeder, I also use it as a tiller and even for digging holes when planting bulbs. Of all my garden tools, the Leonard Cape Cod Weeder is my favorite. I had purchased a similar tool about 20 years ago and accidentally tossed it out with a bucket of weeds. I was thrilled when I found this exact tool at A.M. Leonard's. They processed my order quickly and I received my weeder within just a few days! I love this tool, and am an extremely happy A.M. Leonard customer!!

Greatest Weeding Tool on wrote

I have owned one of these for about 20 years. I lost it recently and tried some old methods (screw drivers, spading fork, etc) It didn't take long to realize that the Cape Cod Weeder works the best. It is perfect for removing weeds, especially crab grass and dandelions, and will last a lifetime if you don't leave it in the weeding bucket and send it off to be mulched!

One of My Main Gardening Tools on wrote

I use this tool almost as much as my pruners and feel almost handicapped without it. They are really tough and I've never had one bend on me. It works great for weeding gravel walks and drives although gravel does wear down the metal after a few years. I use it not only for weeds but for loosening the soil or to plant smaller plants. One valuable tip: wrap bright electrical tape around the handle to make it easy to spot,- you don't want to loose it!

Absolutely the best on wrote

Over the years I've owned several versions of this weeder, and this one is absolutely the best. The quality of its materials, its proportions and balance, and its comfort in the hand make it a reliable companion in the garden -- one that shares the most disagreeable of chores. Even the stony soils of Vermont are slow to deplete its blade.

Best weeding tool for me on wrote

This is the best hand weeding tool that I've used. I have found that preference for weeding tools varies widely from person to person, but this is the style of weeding tool that works best for me. It takes the place of several tools all in one, from fine touch to aggressive root pulling. I have bought one for each of my family to have for their own.

Great Weeder on wrote

This weeder is stronger than me. Unlike the Japanese weeder that broke after repeatedly bending out of shape, the neck on this tool doesn't budge. I have pried and pulled as hard as I can without problem. A few passes with a bastard file keeps the edge sharp and slicing through the weed roots. I can dig out the the deeper roots with no problem.

a small tweak makes this good tool great on wrote

As a landscaper, we employ a lot of different guys who all seem to have thier favorite bed weeding tool for spring clean ups. The Cape Cod Weeder is the the most popular choice and the half dozen we have get a lot of use. Within about 3 weeks of buying the first batch the blade pulled out of the handle. In Columbus we have very heavy clay soil and the use we gave these tools might better be described as abuse. Jackie, our super-sales-girl at AM Leonard, quickly sent out replacements (they are always great to deal with) but my guys destroyed those tools as well. So if you run into this problem there is a super easy fix. On a drill press make a small hole through the metal collar, the wooden handle and the steel shank of the blade, then drop a short cotter pin in the hole, and BAM!! your one minute of work provides a tool that lasts through more than two years of daily use and abuse.

Best All-Round Garden Tool on wrote

As a master gardener, I've tried many types of hand tools. The cape cod weeder is the best all-round garden tool ever. I not only 'weed' with it, but dig holes to plant transplants, lift paving stones, cultivate mulch, make straight rows for seeds, and scrape out the bottom of the lawn mower. A Felco hand prunner and a cape cod weeder is all you need for daily garden chores!

The Absolute Best Gardening Tool on wrote

Honestly, I lost my Cape Cod Weeder last year, and just shudder to go into my garden without it. It works like an extension to your arm. We have wire grass in the yard, and it obviously gets into the garden. This is the best tool for the job! Also, as I'm going around the beds, I can edge with this puppy too! It's sharp, angled perfectly, and very easy to manipulate. I've used it for years in professional beds - it can help lever edging rocks as well. My kids love this tool too (which is why it's gone missing!). I've ordered three so I always have one available for myself, and two for the kids as it makes gardening fun for them vs a chore.

Almost the only tool you need on wrote

The design of the Leonard Cape Cod Weeder is a stroke of genius. I actually live on Cape Cod (the name had nothing to do with my purchase)and we have very sandy soil. I use it for every cultivating need I have. I've even used it to pull chunks of weeds, grass from edged areas. This purchase was to replace a well loved and used product that I had for over 23 years. It didn't wear out, I lost the original one as I believe it went for a ride on the trunk of my car and slipped off. Lucky person that found it!
