This is the only long handled tiller mattock I could find and its a back saver since this the best tool for the work we do.
However, so far we've broken or bent the tines on 2 of the 6 that were purchased. I have a dozen short handled tiller mattocks that are at least 7 years old with no broken tines. The metal part could be made of a higher quality metal, I would pay for the difference in price for this.
I've been looking for a long handled tiller Mattock. Found one at A.M. Leonard and my volunteers couldn't be happier. Not we don't have to bend over so much when removing weeds that need to be extracted root and all.
I do watershed restoration work, and this is my favorite tool: if I had to choose just 1, this would be it! It's great for removing big clumps of non-natives -- drive the tines in at the root crown, and the long handle provides the leverage to pry it up. I also use it to dig holes for planting our natives and do minor trail maintenance with it. You can also use the tines as a rake to pile up small debris for hauling. I'd give it 5 stars, except that you can't use it in rocky areas, since the blade chips.
