I do volunteer work for the USFS and NPS. Previously I repaired trails in southern California where the McLeod is an essential tool. When I moved to Asheville, I found that the local trail crews were not familiar with the tool and I purchased my onw from you. The tool has been a wise purchase. I selected the model with the long handle. I learned in California that this model works better than the one with a polymer handle. I am surprised how few gardeners and trail workers are aware of the utility of the McLeod. It is a tool for all seasons.
Our job entails removing stubborn weeds from tree pits; this mcleod was perfect for the job! We were careful not to damage tree roots while using this tool, and were able to do so with this tool. Would recommend for gardening as well, a great way to remove dead plants.
I am exteremely pleased with the McLeod Tool that I purchased to help in new walking trails in thru a forest adjacent to my home. I came across a reference to it while researching trailbuilding methods -online- and it is easy to see why it is used by the National Parks Firefighting Services and trail-builders alike. An excellent and very well-built, one of a kind tool
I've been landscaping with a Mcleod tool for over 25 years. Yes, you can do all the chores as stated in A.M. Leonard's product description. It is especially useful for forming water basins around newly planted trees and shrubs. Wonderful for tamping, too, if you weld the handle piece to the head and remove the screw/bolt on the bottom for a smoother finish tamp.
