Silky

Silky saws are made in Japan's Ono region and have been since 1919. The impulse-hardened teeth stay sharp through heavy use and cut on both the push and pull stroke, which is why arborists and tree crews reach for them over domestic alternatives. A.M. Leonard is an authorized Silky dealer with the full line in stock: folding saws, pruning saws, arborist saws, pole saw heads, poles, and replacement blades. Which Silky pole saw should I buy for professional tree work?

The Hayauchi is the one most tree crews use. It telescopes to 21 feet, takes a 15.375-inch large-tooth blade, and the locking mechanism holds firm at any extension without creep. For climbing arborists who need a saw they can work with in the canopy, the Zubat is the better fit: shorter, curved blade, aggressive tooth geometry, and it comes with a scabbard. A.M. Leonard stocks both, along with replacement blades for each.

Why do Silky saws cut faster than other hand saws?

Two reasons. First, the blades are taper-ground, meaning the blade body is thinner behind the teeth, so there is less friction and the saw does not bind in green wood. Second, the teeth are impulse-hardened at the tips only, which makes them harder than the blade body and resistant to dulling. The tradeoff is that impulse-hardened teeth cannot be resharpened with a file. When the blade stops cutting cleanly, you replace it rather than sharpen it, which is why having replacement blades on hand matters.

Are replacement blades for Silky saws available at A.M. Leonard?

Yes. A.M. Leonard stocks replacement blades for the Hayauchi, Zubat, Zubat Professional Arborist Edition, LongBoy, Super Accel, Sugoi, Gomtaro, and PocketBoy series. Use the Replacement Parts filter on this page or search your model name above to find the correct blade. Replacement blades are sold individually and cost significantly less than a new saw.

Where are Silky saws manufactured?

All Silky saws are made in Ono, Hyogo Prefecture, Japan, where the company has manufactured blades since 1919. Production has not moved offshore. The Ono region has produced blades for several centuries and is where Silky's grinding and tooth-hardening processes were developed.

What warranty do Silky saws carry?

Silky covers defects in materials and workmanship on all saws purchased through authorized dealers. A.M. Leonard is an authorized Silky dealer, so all purchases qualify. Blade wear is not covered under warranty, but replacement blades are stocked here and are straightforward to swap without tools on most folding and pole saw models.
